Give Thanks

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. —Psalm 136:1

When I come across the phrase “give thanks” in God’s Word, something stirs my heart. It makes me pause and really think. A quick search of Scripture shows how often this command is repeated. From the Old Testament to the New, God tells us to give thanks again and again.

But let’s be honest—it’s hard to give thanks when things aren’t going well or when we can’t see a solution. In those moments, we’re often ruled by fear, doubt, lack of faith, or simply a desire for control. But whatever is driving us in those times reveals what’s really going on in our hearts.

There’s a connection between how well we know God and how we respond to circumstances. Maybe this year didn’t go as you had planned. Maybe things changed unexpectedly. How did you react?

Did you thank God, even in the middle of it? Or are you still struggling with those adverse circumstances? Wherever you find yourself, I invite you to pray and ask God to help you see reasons to be thankful—even if it’s difficult.
