You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures. —Psalm 16:11
Only in God’s presence is there fullness of joy. This means that our joy now is scarce in comparison to what it will be when God replaces all our sin with perfect holiness. Now we still have to fight past our fluctuating emotions, our very real grief, and our sin. When we are with God, all of those barriers will be taken away. The temptations we have from the devil, the world, and our flesh will be obsolete. We won’t have other emotions competing for our joy. We will have only the influence of the Holy Spirit and the joy of being in the presence of our Father and his Son.
There may never have been any joy in your earthly home, but there will be fulness of joy in our heavenly home simply because God is there. He will provide himself for us, and once he has taken away all of those “no mores,” there will be no interference to our delight.1
