Fruitful at Any Age

May 8, 2025 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. —Proverbs 4:18 ESV

As you get older, you ought to be maturing spiritually and bearing more fruit. I love Proverbs 4:18 and often include it on birthday greetings. God’s perspective is if you are a righteous person, your life is like the light of dawn—it starts out like a glimmer of light, and then as the day progresses, the sun gets higher and higher in the sky, until at full noon the light is at its brightest. That’s the way we should think of aging.

There should never be a time, no matter how old you are, when you stop flourishing, growing, and being fruitful. There’s never a time to retire spiritually; never a time to be put on a shelf spiritually.

Older women are a key component in the Titus 2 formula for biblical womanhood. It’s important that we respect those who are older, and that as we age, we become more and more like Jesus—until “full day,” when we see Him face to face.

Make it Personal

Are you spiritually more mature and fruitful today than you were five years ago? How can you continue to grow as you get older?
