Finish Where You Started

October 12, 2026 Katie Laitkep

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. —Galatians 2:20

So often we start out at the cross, knowing we need God’s mercy, but then begin to drift–– trying to manage, fix, or perfect ourselves apart from His grace. We proclaim the first part of Galatians 2:20 with our lips. But if our lives told the story, they might read more like: “The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God controlling everything myself.”

In Galatians 3:3, Paul asks, “After beginning by the Spirit, are you now finishing by the flesh?” Surrender doesn’t mean that you confess your sins and struggles to the Lord during a worship service, only to walk away determined to fix your life and live your freedom by yourself. If you had what it takes to do this without Christ, you never would have ended up at the cross in need of Him to begin with.

How can you resist the drift toward self-reliance and instead live each day by faith in Christ?
