Divine Providence

At the Lord’s command, Moses wrote down the starting points for the stages of their journey. —Numbers 33:2

Moses gives a detailed account of Israel’s journey through the wilderness, noting the many stops they made along the way. It must have seemed as though they would never be finished doing the same things over and over again. But they were not alone; God guided them day and night through a pillar of cloud and fire (Ex. 13:21–22). “With your faithful love, you will lead the people you have redeemed; you will guide them to your holy dwelling with your strength” (Ex. 15:13).

In the same way, our own lives can seem full of valleys and short on mountaintops—at times taking us through very dry or swampy terrain. But God is in control of every stretch of your story. If you are His daughter, He will lead you step by step, even beyond death itself (Psalm 48:14), until you enter His blessed presence. So keep running your race—not with your eyes fixed on the path but with your gaze set on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Heb. 12:2).
