Divine Blessings

“Look, a people has come out of Egypt; they cover the surface of the land and are living right across from me. Please come and put a curse on these people for me.” —Numbers 22:5–6

Israel’s enemies, determined to destroy them, hired a diviner to pronounce a curse on them. But this was a people already blessed by God (Gen. 12:1–3). And who can undo what God has done? That is why Balaam was unable to curse Israel, despite the generous payment Balak offered him. To live under God’s blessing is to dwell beneath His grace, mercy, and protection. A curse would mean having God as an enemy and bearing the consequences. Israel had been chosen to inherit blessing—not to be cursed.

We too have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, chosen by Him to be part of His people before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:3–4). As daughters of the Lord, we are called to be a blessing to others, “not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing,” knowing that we were called to inherit a blessing (1 Pet. 3:9). Are you living as one chosen by God—doing good even to those who do you wrong?
