I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. —Psalm 18:6
The more we walk with Christ, the more dependent upon him we should become. As time goes on, we become more aware of our need for Christ as we become more aware of the frailty and sin in our heart. This causes us to cry out in dependence to God regularly.
We often think the person who is most mature is that way because they are strong. The truth is, the most mature among us are those who recognize how weak they are and come to God with a child-like faith. So, when we see those sinful patterns in us that were in our parents, it is not enough to say, “I don’t want to repeat what I see in them.” We must recognize the error, confess it to God, and ask God to help us repent so that we can begin to practice new, healthy, holy patterns. The more regularly we depend upon Christ, the more we are communing and clinging to him. Dependence leads us to worship.1
