A Study in Mercy

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. —James 4:10

If pride has been clouding your trust and willingness to believe in the goodness of God and in where He wants you to go with Him, will you open your eyes and see?

There’s mercy for that. The mercy of God. The power of repentance. The promise of change. It’s humbling, yes—in a good way. And yet humility is also a difficult choice for us, and God knows this. He knows how tightly we grip those things we look to for security. He knows our reluctance to let go. He knows how hard it is for us to trust Him to run this world. And He knows the reason we build fortresses of pride is usually to mask our hidden fears and insecurities.

So, He is patient. He’s willing to make this a process. If the place we’re going is humility, He will take the time to walk it out with us. He’ll even put us in the right conditions to steer us there. Toward having a right-sized view of ourselves. In agreement with reality. At peace.

Make it Personal

Is there anything you’re holding on to tightly, trying to control the outcome? How can you let go and surrender it to God?
