A Strong Tower

December 8, 2023 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected. —Proverbs 18:10

A lot of people think of Luke 2 as the Christmas chapter of the Bible. They think it ends with the shepherds returning from the manger back to their fields. But Luke 2 goes on to provide more helpful material. The verse following the story of the shepherds tells us, “He was named Jesus—the name given by the angel” (v. 21).

The name spoken about this child is one who will “deliver His people.” I think it’s significant to look at that name, Deliverer, during the Christmas season.

What do you need to be delivered from? This month may remind you of painful situations, strained relationships, loneliness, or loss. You may be facing temptation or feel the frustration of a tight budget.

Whatever it is, don’t forget to include the naming of Jesus, our Deliverer, in your Christmas story. Turn to your Deliverer this season. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. Run to Him and be safe.
