A Roadblock to Revival

April 23, 2026 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him. —Psalm 10:4 ESV

Pride, the opposite of humility, is the most formidable roadblock to revival. Pride blinds us to our true spiritual condition and causes us to think more highly of ourselves than we should. When we are proud, self becomes more important than anyone else. When we are proud, we are driven to promote ourselves and to protect our reputation. Pride keeps us at a distance from God.

But as strongly as God is repulsed by pride, He is drawn to humility. Isaiah 57:15 says,

For the High and Exalted One,
who lives forever, whose name is holy,
says this:
“I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly
of spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and revive the heart of the oppressed.”

God chooses to exalt the humble. He promises to live in intimate fellowship with them. Those with humble hearts are candidates for revival.
