A Glimpse of God

August 18, 2025 Blair Linne

Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. —Ephesians 6:4

Human fathers are made in the image of God and are to reflect his fatherhood on earth (Genesis 1:26–27; 5:1–3; 9:6). . . . They are to be the head of their home (1 Corinthians 11:3). They are given a mandate to provide for (1 Timothy 5:8), protect (Ephesians 5:28), and train their children (Hebrews 12:9) . . . They are to instill blessing and identity in their children (Hebrews 11:21). . . .

This is a high calling and a hard calling. Any man who lives out this biblical sketch for fathers points to the common grace given to all people. But even more beautiful is the Christian father who points their children to that which cannot be attained merely through natural means. A child in that household has a proximity to special revelation—to a glimpse of God—which sets them on a trajectory of being more likely to have God as their Father (Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6). 2

Make it Personal

Pray for the fathers that you know, that they would point their children to the heavenly Father.
