A Glimpse

In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream with visions in his mind as he was lying in his bed. —Daniel 7:1

The scores of specific predictions in the visions of Daniel 7–12 were revealed to Daniel hundreds and even thousands of years before any of these ghastly events had actually taken place.

It’s as if someone living in the mid-1600s had written a book describing in detail Germany’s invasion of Poland at the start of World War II, the Jewish Holocaust, the Iran-Iraq war, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Rwandan genocide, the worldwide pandemic of 2020, and many other such events that were yet to happen.

There’s no way someone could do that, we’d say. Yet the visions in Daniel speak of coming battles, coming rulers, coming calamities, and coming hope with a certainty that only God could know about.

God wanted Daniel—and believers of all eras— to get a glimpse of earth’s happenings from heaven’s perspective. He wanted us to see and understand that through all the rising and falling of kings and kingdoms on earth, heaven continues to rule.
