A Different Measure

March 22, 2026 Colleen Chao

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. —Ephesians 2:10

We post selfies, fill our calendars, and juggle relationships to find value. But chasing down “likes” is exhausting. Instead of baring ourselves to the masses, we were made to measure our worth by Jesus. What He has done defines us. God is not impressed with numbers, crowds, or claustrophobic calendars. Rather He says, “I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word” (Isa. 66:2).

We will never learn to tremble at His Word if we’re codependent upon other’s words. Humility eludes us if we look to them and not to Him. In Him, our hearts go from chaotic to quiet, grateful instead of greedy, exalting in love instead of trying to earn it.

Then can we effectively engage our world— social media and all—for greater purposes than our own image and identity. Only then can we filter both compliments and criticisms through His love for us. Only then can we freely love others.

Make it Personal

Ask God to still your heart and help you find your true value in Him alone rather than the world’s approval.
