Want to see my Christmas gift?

Some of you may recall my post from December 2009 where I shared about my daughter’s miscarriage. Thankfully, that was not the end of the story. I love knowing that when we are facing the darkest night, we can be assured we’ve not yet seen all God has in store.

I am grateful we have reminders of God’s faithfulness, not only throughout Scripture, but in the many moments woven into the fabric of our daily lives.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)

This Christmas, one of those gifts came a little early. Exactly two weeks before her due date, and two days before we were planning to leave for the nine-hour trek to their home for Christmas, my daughter called to tell me early labor had begun! Although we drove through the night only stopping briefly for fuel, little Teagan Annette entered the world while we were en route.

Teagan (“little poet”) Annette (a fourth generation name) has my heart already. She was born early but healthy. She’s already brought our family much joy. I look forward to seeing all the good things the Father has in store for this little one.

Not every miscarriage follows with a healthy baby. Not every prayer for the young mom with cancer is answered with recovery. Not every “gift” is one that is wanted. But in all that the Father gives, we can be assured it is a gift from Him with good purpose.

Today you may be waiting for an answer. Your heart may be weighed down with grief. You may feel all alone and without hope for the future. Please be assured the Father of lights is the provider of every perfect gift. Cling to Him, the unchanging faithful One. He cares for you.
