Meet Karen Waddles, New True Woman Blogger

Hey, ladies. Please give a warm, true woman welcome to Karen Waddles, our newest True Woman blogger. I think you’ll love her! Get to know her a bit today with this Q&A, and then check back tomorrow to read her first post.

Karen, introduce us to your family.
I am happily married to George, who for the past 28 years has served as pastor of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Chicago. We have four wonderful children (three sons and one daughter) and nine grandchildren. Two of our sons are pastors and one is a lawyer. Our daughter is a stay-at-home mother.

Tell us about your relationship with God. How did you become a follower of Jesus?
I became a follower of Christ at the age of seven. I understood that Jesus had died for my sins and made a way for me to have a relationship with God. It was God as father that was most compelling to me. My relationship with my stepfather was strained at best, so in many ways God became my Abba Father. I talked to him each night. Those early years were foundational in developing intimacy in my walk with the Lord.

Tell us about your job at Moody Publishers. What do you do?
I have worked as Assistant to the Publisher for the past ten years. I work closely with our publisher and serve on a number of publishing teams. I have been a part of the Lift Every Voice brand team for ten years. This team reviews manuscripts for publication to the African-American audience. I recently joined Moody Publishers’ True Woman team, working closely with Nancy DeMoss and other key authors in the True Woman Movement.

Describe yourself in five words.
1. Quiet
2. Opinionated
3. Strong-willed
4. Kind
5. Patient (for the most part)

What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about making my heart a safe place for His word and His ways, and impacting those around me in the same way. When I see the direction that the culture and even the church is moving, I am concerned that more and more the Word doesn’t “fit.” It clashes hard with our culture and even with much of what is happening in the church. I’m desperate for that never to be true of my own heart.

You write and speak to women a lot. What do you talk to them about?
I speak to women about the biblical womanhood message. I see wives and mothers every day who are spinning their wheels trying to live life according to the wisdom of the culture and I desperately want them to know that His way is the only way.

What are you most excited about regarding the True Woman Movement?
I am most excited that the movement is organized and seems to be gaining steam across the country.
