Look Up: Surviving—And Thriving—In An Economic Crisis

Over the next several days, we’ll be talking about the ten principles she shared from God’s Word to help strengthen our hearts in these uncertain times.

The first—and most important—is:

1. Look upward, rather than outward or inward.

Our response to turbulent times will be determined by our perspective and where we place our focus. People should be able to look at Christians and see a response to pressure that is distinctly different—“unexplainable”! (Phil. 2:14-15)

I’m tempted to hurry on to the other nine points because I’m a “doer,” and the other points seem more tangible and practical. Looking up—fixing my eyes on my Provider God—is something I tend to hurry right past. But if I don’t dig into who He is, if I don’t make these theological truths my own—that He knows all about my situation and that He cares—I will fall prey to fear, and I will hoard my things.

If you want help fixing your eyes on Him, I recommend that you listen to the program.

I also encourage you to take the time to answer this question right here on the blog: How has God showed Himself faithful in your life? Share a story with us to help strengthen our faith!

PS: This first principle is excerpted from “Hope for Uncertain Times: Surviving—And Thriving—In An Economic Crisis” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
