Keller, DeMoss, and Hansen on “Revival: A Gorgeous Thing”

A Video Interview with Nancy, Tim Keller, and Collin Hansen
While most conference attendees were in on a workshop session this morning, The Gospel Coalition shot a short video on revival with Pastor Tim Keller, Collin Hansen, and Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I had the privilege of listening in, and thought I’d share a few highlights with you without giving too much away.

One of Pastor Keller’s first statements captured my attention, “The world doesn’t see a beautiful church. Honestly, the best way to reach people is to show them something gorgeous.”

Nancy saw something gorgeous as a 12-year-old girl when she stumbled upon several revival stories. As she read these accounts and then saw seasons in Scripture where God pulled back His glory, she began to cry out, “God, would you do it again?” She was being raised in a solid evangelical home and church at the time, but knew what she was seeing wasn’t all God could do if He wanted to and chose to.

Most believers don’t have a vision or paradigm for revival, she said. When she met Collin Hansen (co-author of A God-Sized Vision: Revival Stories That Stretch and Stir), she felt like a gust of fresh air had blown into the room. “It had been too long since I’d heard that God wanted to do more.”

Collin Hansen referenced a quote by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones about how the Lord can do far more in a day than we can do in years of planning and training and scheming. Pastor Keller said the thought that revival could come the next day regularly inspires him. And Nancy concluded with G. Campbell Morgan’s statement, "We cannot manufacture revival, but we can set our sails to catch the wind from heaven when God chooses to blow upon His people once again."

Revival & Twitter Trending
This morning, “Chicago” and “God” were among the top ten trending topics on Twitter. That’s something. Meanwhile, our ministry is keeping close track of what is going on in Little Rock right now. Wouldn’t it be cool if tomorrow we saw “New York,” “Dallas,” “Los Angeles” and “God” trending on Twitter due to a sweeping move of God?

Will you join the cry of Nancy’s 12-year-old heart that God would do it again? In you, your family, your church, your city?

“Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence—as when fire kindles brushwood and the fire causes water to boil—to make your name known to your adversaries, and that the nations might tremble at your presence!” (Isaiah 64:1-2).
