Hope While We Wait (Day 3)

We’re in the midst of a special ten-day challenge . . . to help you find True Hope through the Psalms. Enjoy today’s devotional and share with a friend! They can sign up at ReviveOurHearts.com. —Hayley Mullins, True Woman Blog Content Manager

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. —Psalm 62:5–6

Our hope:
I have hope while I wait because God is my rock and salvation. One day, the wait will be over, and I’ll be at home with my resurrected Savior.

Ever notice how much time you spend waiting? The checkout line, airport security lines, the after-school pick up queue . . . we don’t mind waiting for something when it’s worth the wait. But what about when it feels prolonged and fruitless?

Waiting for . . .

  • Conflict resolution.
  • A marriage proposal.
  • A positive pregnancy test.
  • Physical healing.

The list is endless, and so is the wait. It’s hard to remain hopeful when the outcome of our prayers (and tears) remains uncertain. That’s why, as we wait, we must revert our attention to Jesus, the source of hope.

Psalm 62:5–8 says to trust in God, our rock, refuge, and salvation. And Psalm 39:12 reminds us we’re sojourners in this world. One day, the wait will be over, and we’ll be home—with Jesus! This is our source of True Hope.

Looking to the day we’re united with our resurrected Savior gives us hope and makes everything here worth the wait. Because Jesus is worth the wait.

Reflect and Respond:

Read Psalm 39 and 62.

  • Are you trusting in our unchanging God to write your story in His perfect timing?
  • Are you fixated on what you’re waiting for rather than Who you’re waiting for? Do you long for Christ’s return?
  • How might reflecting on eternity with Jesus change your perspective and give hope for today?

Go Deeper:

  • Considering the psalms you just read:
    • How is God described? How do His attributes offer hope in your situation?
    • How has God proved Himself to be faithful to you in the past?
  • Humbly and honestly “pour out your heart” to Jesus.
  • Sing praises to Jesus for His faithfulness and love.
