The Friday Five – 11.30.18

  1. Tomorrow is already December 1—can you believe it? Earlier this week, I brought bags of Christmas picture books into my classroom, and as the kids flopped down on the carpet and began flipping through the pages, they could not contain their excitement. That same sense of wonder may feel out of reach as we look to Christmas. To help us rediscover the awe, The First Songs of Christmas Blog will be delivering a daily dose of wonder throughout the Christmas season. It begins tomorrow, so sign up now and open the door to joy every day in December!
  1. If we were sitting together at a coffee shop, and you were telling me how you’re really doing, would you say that you’re weary? Physically exhausted? Barely able to hold back tears? Sarah Walton knows what that’s like, and she has written a post especially for moms who are feeling unappreciated, worn out, and inadequate. Let her words remind you today that you are not alone in the struggle and joy of this journey.
  1. When I saw Stacy Reaoch share this article on Instagram, I saved it immediately. Stacy writes in response to a precious single woman, who wrote an email laying “bare the loneliness she feels, the intense desire to be pursued by a godly man, and the painful feelings of unwantedness that result from the lack of having someone to love.” If this sounds familiar, check out Stacy’s practical ways to make the most of singleness while you long to be married.
  1. When I first heard this podcast episode with Jen Wilkin and Melissa Kruger discussing how to help teenagers study the Bible, I found myself nodding and amen-ing in an empty room. Jen says that when teens are at the point when they’re being asked to do physics and calculus, “we begin saying, ‘You know what? Just spend 10 minutes each morning doing a devotional with your sacred text.’” Jen and Melissa say there’s a better message to be sending to the younger believers in our lives.
  2. Speaking of teens, True Woman’s little sister blog has a super fun Friday post they recently launched. Each week, Samantha Nieves and the LYWB team share some of their favorite things—from other blog posts to YouTube videos to recipes to products! In this post, Samantha shared a list of all of the warm 'n cozy things she’s loving right now: candles with swoon worthy scents and four-legged friends and the perfect beverage to sip on this season.
