Amen

"The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness." (Rev. 3:14)

Whatever you need, whatever your season of life, whatever your circumstance, whatever your challenge, whatever you may be facing this day, you will find all you need in the name of Jesus. He is worthy of all your trust and obedience, which is what the believers in the church at Laodicea had forgotten.

He is the Amen, the faithful and true witness. That means His words are trustworthy, and all His promises are true.

In Revelation there are letters to seven churches, and the one to Laodicea is the final letter. This church was in the worst spiritual condition of all seven, and Jesus has firm words for them. He begins by reminding those believers who He is: "The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation" (Rev. 3:14). Jesus is the Amen, which means that He is constant and unchanging. This name fits Him perfectly. In fact, in its truest sense, it couldn't apply to anyone else.

He's the one who searches and inspects hearts. He knows the truth—He knows our true condition. He is about to tell the Laodicean church the truth about their condition, which is quite different from their perception of themselves. What about you? Do you trust His assessment of your true condition?

He is the Amen, the faithful and true witness. That means His words are trustworthy, and all His promises are true.

  • He promises that if we seek the kingdom of God first, everything else we need will be added to us.
  • He promises eternal life to all who believe in Him.
  • He promises that those who ask will receive.
  • He promises us a kingdom.
  • He promises rest for our weary souls.
  • He promises to come again and take us to be with Him forever.
  • He promises that the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church.
  • He promises that those who are willing to lose their life will find it.
  • He promises His Spirit to guide and comfort us.
  • He promises to be in the midst of His people who are gathered in His name.
  • And He has promised, "I am with you always."

Jesus is the Amen, the faithful and true witness, so it behooves us to listen to what He says and to trust Him—His character, His promises, and His Word. He is worthy of your complete confidence. Whatever you may be going through, in every season and circumstance of life, you can cling to Him and count on Him.

Jesus is the guarantee of God’s promises. Hebrews 1:1–2 says, "Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son." There is nothing else left to say. Our beloved Lord Jesus is God’s final word, the Amen.

Believe Him, obey Him, heed Him, "for all the promises of God find their Yes [Amen] in Him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory" (2 Cor. 1:20).

"How do we know that God's Word is true and that we can stake our lives upon it? Jesus who lived, walked, died and rose among us is the great Amen. He is truly, truly the 'verily, verily.' He is the 'it is so' and the 'so be it' of God's promises."1

"The Amen is at the right hand of God, His word is sure and stable, every promise securely vested in Him; God has triumphed! 'Let us give unto the Lord the glory due to His Name.'"2

See the little baby, amen
Lyin' in a manger, amen
On Christmas morning
Amen, amen, amen!

See him in the garden, amen
Talkin' with the Father, amen
In deepest sorrow
Amen, amen, amen.

Led before Pilate, amen
Then they crucified him, amen
But he rose on Easter
Amen, amen, amen.

Hallelujah! Amen
He died to save us, amen
But he lives forever!
Amen, amen, amen!
