A Tour of My Home

I try to keep my heart fixed on Christ, and one practical way I do that is by using visual reminders. In fact, I’d love to take you on a tour of my home. In lieu of a YouTube video, please join me on a “blog post tour” and use your imagination as you “drop by” for a visit!

As you come up the porch steps, don’t miss the mezuzah on the front door frame. I brought it back from Israel. It holds Deuteronomy 6:4-9 written on a small piece of parchment. Observant Jewish homes affix the mezuzah to the door frame as a constant reminder of God's presence.
Come on in. Notice the crimson accents throughout our home. The color takes me back to the cross by reminding me of His blood, His suffering, and my redemption. I have a grouping of large thorn limbs in remembrance of His crown. Rustic crosses stand as sentinels. Empty, they serve as brief reminders of His passion while pointing to His resurrection.
I found our “unusual” bedroom door in a salvage building several years ago. The upper half is a stained glass panel in the pattern of the fruit and vine, reminding me of John 15 and our call to glorify God through fruitfulness. Numerous “fruit-bearing” pictures and paintings are scattered here and there.
Please take time to read the many Scripture references placed throughout our home. Some are beautifully framed pieces, some just hand-scribbled on sticky notes. Hear the chiming clock? Through the day it rings every quarter hour, reminding me to “redeem the time” or to pause for prayer and worship.
Some dear friends gave me the large picture over my mantle, a beautiful depiction of John 15:8. A large reprint of Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam hangs on the wall behind the head of our bed. But perhaps my favorite piece in our home is the beautiful print of Jesus weeping over Jerusalem as described in Matthew 23:37. It is a focal point for me as I write, and it is a constant reminder of His heart for the lost.
I wish we could sit down for a cup of tea or coffee together, but instead, please share with me some of the things you do to help keep your heart fixed on Christ.
