Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When I was a teen, my dad helped me learn how to speed-read. But he said there were two things that should never be speed-read: love letters and the Bible.
Most of us wouldn’t think about quickly skimming through a love letter. Instead, we would study it for every nuance of meaning.
Well, the Bible is a love letter. The more carefully we read it, the more we’ll discover God’s heart for us.
If you’re in the habit of rushing through the Bible, would you consider reading more thoughtfully? Pause to meditate on the things you’re reading. Dwell on it, and ponder it until it becomes part of you.
That’s what God told Joshua to do. He said, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it” (Josh. 1:8).
