Gardening 101

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: If you wanted to grow your own vegetables, you’d buy some seeds. Now, would you pamper those seeds, setting them in a special place in your home? No. Growth only comes through a difficult and dirty process. Those seeds have to be buried in the dirt, where it is dark and lonely. That’s where their hard outer shell is broken so life can come forth.

Jesus used this idea to make a point. He said, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit” (John 12:24).

Jesus was talking about His own death and resurrection. We’re called to follow His example. When we’re willing to die to our own interests, desires, and plans, God’s life will be released through us.

Are you allowing God to live through you? Or are you like a hard, unbroken seed that is unwilling to die? Remember, in God’s economy, death brings life.

With Seeking Him, I'm Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
