Seeking Him Radio

A Flood and a River

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: We can't live without water. But water can also be deadly. We see this contrast in Psalm 46. The psalmist describes the trouble that comes into our lives as a flood. But in the middle of this crisis, there’s a source of help, also represented by water.

The psalmist says, “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God” (46:4). Now there’s no literal river that runs through Jerusalem. The psalmist isn’t talking about a natural river. He’s saying that when floods come into our lives, there is a source of joy. The presence of God is like a river that calmly, consistently flows into our lives, giving us everything we need.

Are there some troubled waters in your life? Ask God to lead you to the peaceful, flowing river of His presence. As the psalmist says, His presence can make you glad—even in the flood.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
