Worth Fighting For

January 31, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. —1 Peter 5:8

The discipline of a quiet time has never come easily for me. As much as I value this time with the Lord, I find myself having to fight to make it a consistent reality. I battle my flesh, which loves to sleep and is easily distracted. I battle my schedule with its never-ending to-do list. I battle interruptions.

But over the years I’ve come to believe this is something worth fighting for. One of the reasons it is such a battle is that the enemy of my soul knows if he can defeat me here, he will ultimately be able to defeat me in every other area of my spiritual life.

Satan hates God and works tirelessly to convince Christians that they can operate independently of God. If we concede the battle to him, he knows we will end up defeated, frustrated, barren, and useless to God. Worse, we’ll end up doubting God, despairing of His goodness, in bondage to our flesh, and resisting His will.
