While You Wait

September 3, 2023 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the person who seeks him. It is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. —Lamentations 3:25–26

There’s a big lesson in Habakkuk 3:16. In this one short sentence the prophet uttered, “I must quietly wait for the day of distress to come against the people invading us.” Having already come to grips with the facts that God’s people would be invaded by an army that was not only their enemy but God’s and that he and his people needed the refining this would bring, Habakkuk then concludes that God would also punish the invaders . . . eventually.

And until that day came—after his own “day of distress” had come and gone—Habakkuk would wait—and wait quietly. Which meant that he would leave it to God (as if he really had a choice) when and how these enemies would be punished.

Can you do that? Can you wait . . . quietly?

Make it Personal

Is there anyone who’s treating you unjustly? Will you turn them over to God today and refuse to seek your own form of justice?
