Training for Godliness

For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. —1 Timothy 4:8

Every moment of the day you’re either training yourself for godliness or ungodliness. It’s in the books you read, the music you listen to, what you talk about with your friends, and what you do with your free time. It doesn’t mean you have to read your Bible every waking hour, but you do need to be making choices to get input into your mind, heart, and life that push you toward godliness.

While it’s a lot of effort, there’s a promise that comes with this pursuit. You see, physical exercise has some profit, but it’s only for
the here and now. Yet the exercise toward godliness has the promise of profit not only for your body but for your soul, spirit, mind, and emotions. It will profit you in every area of this life but also for eternity. It’s worth it to go to the gym, spiritually speaking, to develop godliness.
