It Started with a Lie

[The serpent] said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” —Genesis 3:1

Take a walk with me back to where all our problems began: in the Garden of Eden, the first home of Adam and Eve—a perfect, ideal environment. What took place in that setting has an inescapable bearing on each of our lives today.

A lie was the starting place for all the trouble in the history of the universe. Eve had listened to that lie, believed that lie, and acted on that lie. Every problem, every war, every wound, every broken relationship, every heartache—it all goes back to one simple lie.

As lies have a way of doing, that first lie grew and spun off more lies. Eve believed the lie, and we, the daughters of Eve, have followed in her steps—listening to, believing, and acting on one lie after another. We’ve believed some lies so long that it may be difficult to recognize them as lies. The “best” lies are those that look the most like the Truth. The “newest” lies are the oldest ones.

What lies do we often believe that look a lot like the Truth? How can you train your mind to recognize them?
