Daily Reflections: A Daily Digital Devotional

I Can’t Find the Time

Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. —Colossians 4:2

Some time ago, I sent a questionnaire to three hundred women from across the United States who had attended one of our ministry’s women’s conferences. I wanted to hear their hearts regarding a daily devotional life. When I asked about their greatest obstacle to Bible study and time in prayer, the number one response was, “I just can’t find the time!”

In Colossians 4:2, the apostle Paul exhorts us to devote ourselves to prayer. Devoting ourselves includes devoting our time. Some women I know have found it helpful to make an appoint- ment with God and then keep it like any other commitment. Other women commented on the necessity of viewing this time as the most important thing in their lives.

I’ve discovered that if I don’t make a conscious, deliberate effort to set aside time to be with the Lord, other things will always demand my attention. One of my spiritual mentors, who is now with the Lord, used to say, “Don’t try to squeeze God into an already overcrowded schedule. Determine your schedule around Him!”
