His Word, My Nourishment

September 3, 2022 Yamell Jaramillo

Go to the ant, you slacker! Observe its ways and become wise. —Proverbs 6:6

We’d been in our new house for a short time when I noticed that ants began appearing. My neighbor explained that the rainy season was coming, so the ants were storing up food.

Just as ants prepare for bad weather, we should be diligent not only in looking for “food” but in knowing where to look for it. We are in a generation shaped by social networks. We are satisfied by consuming what “so and so” said and are motivated by “likes” and how many times our post was “shared.” But we should be more like the believers in Berea, who “received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

Our source of nourishment should be the Word of God so we can have the discernment we need (James 1). We need wisdom to know and accurately handle God’s Word (2 Tim. 2:15) because it is the only way to have a good foundation and stand firm on the rock which is Christ.

Make it Personal

Is the Word of God your main source of spiritual nourishment—or is something else?
