Daily Reflections: A Daily Digital Devotional

Good and Kind

Encourage the young women . . . to be . . . kind. —Titus 2:4–5

What Paul is exhorting in Titus 2 is more than simply a nice, friendly feeling. It’s kindness that goes somewhere.

The kindness inside us becomes the goodness others receive from us. It’s a process that starts inside and moves outward. It’s not just wanting to be kind but being kind.

Am I a kind person? In heart attitudes as well as outward actions? This is a question that pierces us when God’s Word holds up a mirror in our family rooms, kitchens, and hallways, our cars, minivans, and workplaces. At times, instead of kindness and goodness, what we see reflected is harshness and criticism. Touchiness and irritability.

The people in our lives know they can count on us to be there when they need us. And if our spirit isn’t always kind, is that really such a big deal?

So we go through our days, checking off items from our to-do lists. We perform the duties others demand or expect of us. But are we doing it with a kind heart?

Make it Personal

Pray that God would help you to be a kind person—not just in thoughts and feelings but in actions toward those around you.
