God’s Love Letter

January 14, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night.” —Joshua 1:8

When I was a teenager, my dad helped me learn how to speed-read. But he said there were two things you should never speed-read: love letters and the Bible.

Most of us wouldn’t think about quickly skimming through a love letter. Instead, we pore over its contents and read and reread them, searching for every nuance of meaning we can possibly glean from between the lines.

In fact, the Bible is a “love letter”; it reveals God’s heart to us, and the more carefully, frequently, and thoughtfully we read it, the more we will grasp of His loving heart and intentions toward us.

If you are in the habit of rushing through the Bible, would you consider reading more thoughtfully? Pause to meditate on the meaning of what you are reading. Absorb the Word into your system by dwelling on it, pondering it, going over it in your mind, considering it from many different angles, until it becomes a part of you.
