“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” —Psalm 46:10
Psalm 46:10 is a popular phrase from the Bible—one you’ve probably heard. But did you know it was written in a context a lot like our world today? Psalm 46 also says, “The nations rage; the kingdoms totter” (v. 6), describing great international turmoil.
Yet God is involved in the world. Verse 9 says, “He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear.” That’s a promise that one day God will bring an end to all war.
So, what are we to do in the meantime? Let go. Don’t try to take control or figure everything out. Turn off the TV or log out of social media. Get on your knees with God’s Word open in front of you, and be still. Listen to what God has to say. Remind yourself of the things you know to be true.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” When was the last time you were still before Him?
Make it Personal
When you hear about unsettling things in the world, focus instead on God’s promises and the sure future we have that He will be exalted.
