God's Amazing Grace

February 1, 2021 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.” —Isaiah 12:1

I’m glad we can depend on God to be the same yesterday, today, and forever. I’m thankful that He doesn’t lower His standards to accommodate our disobedience and inabilities. And yet what a comfort it is to be reminded that “he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust” (Psalm 103:14). Fully understanding—even better than we do—that our best is nowhere near good enough, “God, being rich in mercy” (Eph. 2:4) has reached down to rescue and redeem us through the precious offering of His Son, the perfect sacrifice.

Isaiah 12:1 reminds us that wrath is the Lord’s justifiable response toward us, yet He has chosen to show mercy instead. There is no way we could ever repay Him for such amazing grace. There is only one response that even begins to measure its worth—a thankful heart, expressed in both word and deed.

God is merciful. Let us be grateful.
