The Friday Five: 10/25/2019

  1. Giveaway alert!! I cannot explain to y’all how excited I get when super-editor Hayley Mullins sends me an email saying that it’s time for a survey on The Friday Five. . . because it means we get to give away brand-new books! When you take a few minutes to fill out this survey (to help make the True Woman blog even better!), you will be entered for a chance to win a book pack containing The Right Kind of Strong by Mary Kassian, Friend-ish by Kelly Needham, and You Can Trust God to Write Your Story by Nancy and Robert Wolgemuth!
  1. With the World Series happening in Houston (Go Astros!), I keep forgetting that Halloween is less than a week away. If you’re not sure what you will be doing this Thursday, check out how Kelly Needham and her family have been missional about redeeming Fright Night. “We hope our house will be an embassy for the Kingdom of God all year round,” Kelly says. “Halloween just happens to be the day when all of our neighbors are out and about. So for us, it's the best day of the year to be an ambassador for Christ!”
  1. If you’ve ever thought, “Help! My teen is questioning the faith!” then bookmark this post by Melissa Kruger. “How can we foster home environments where [teens] can bring their questions, doubts, and insecurities to us? How can we proactively create spaces for discussions and respond to their doubts and questions with a listening ear and prayerful heart?” Melissa answers these questions and shares how moms of teens can build homes that allow children to wrestle with questions of faith.
  1. Jen Oshman is one of my favorite people to follow on the Internet (and not just because she posts pictures of labrador puppies on Instagram). This week, Jen’s on the Journeywomen podcast chatting about love, and her conversation with Hunter Beless serves as a sweet reminder that loving others is a work of the Spirit and that we need His help to do it! We pray it encourages you to look to Jesus as you seek to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself.”
  1. Feeling overwhelmed as you head into the weekend? Lara d’Entremont has some advice we all need to listen to: “Take a step on your doorstep, breathe in the fresh air, and consider the power, majesty, and wisdom of God that creation proclaims . . . As you go to church, take your eyes off the screen and look past your own individual seat and see the people around you. Listen to their chorus of voices singing together of God’s worthiness . . . Consider His gracious kindness and love to you. Contemplate His power and sovereignty over both the small details and major turning points of life and history . . . how it all sits in the safe palm of God’s hand.”

Listings here do not imply endorsement of all writings and positions of the individuals mentioned.
