The Unforgiving Servant
Nancy Leigh DeMoss: Is there some particular person you’re finding it really hard to forgive?
“I feel like my sister betrayed me. We argued, and then she convinced my daughter-in-law to join her side. Now forgiveness is great, but not in this situation.”
Nancy: Jesus tells a story that tells us some important things about forgiveness. He described a servant who owed the king a lot of money—millions and millions of dollars in today’s terms. The king could have thrown the servant in jail, but he showed mercy. But then as soon as that debtor was free, he found someone else who owed him a day’s wage and had him locked up. When the king found out, he was furious and he said, “Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant as I had mercy on you?"
Is there someone you need to forgive? When we think about how much God has forgiven us, how can we withhold forgiveness from someone else?
