Nancy Leigh DeMoss: A number of years ago the Holy Spirit convicted me that I had developed the habit of exaggerating the truth.
If you knew the details of my exaggeration, you might not think it was such a big deal. But in my heart, I knew that I was guilty of lying.
Changing my behavior turned out to be harder than I expected. Then God brought to mind James 5:16, “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”
Confessing this sin was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. The same pride that caused me to want to exaggerate was the same pride that wanted to cover up my sin. But when I finally did confess to two godly people, that pride was broken and I was set free to begin speaking the truth.
Is there some recurring temptation that you face? Being honest with another godly person could be one of the best things you can do.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
