Nancy Leigh DeMoss: What comes to mind when I say, “Holiness”?
“I would say a person who is holy is someone who does good things and who helps people?”
“Umm, sour-faced.”
“Someone who’s holy is someone who’s always uptight.”
Nancy: Did you know that according to the Bible holiness and happiness go together?
In Psalm 4 David says that “the ungodly love vain words and seek after lies.” In contrast, those who are godly or holy experience true happiness. David prays, “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.”
If we want to increase in peace and joy, we need to be asking God to make us holy.
As Jonathan Edwards said, “Holiness is a most beautiful and lovely thing. There is nothing in it but what is sweet and ravishingly lovely.”
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
