Man: When my dad went into the nursing home, it was like a desert for him. He was cut off from people.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Sometimes God leads us into the desert so we’ll rely more on Him.
Man: All his life he’d been able to lean on his money, his success and reputation. Then all that was gone. It was just him and God.
Nancy: A verse in Deuteronomy says, “God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you” (8:2). We don’t always lean on God until He’s all we have.
Man: I saw him learn to depend on God more and more during that last season before he went to heaven.
Nancy: If you’re in a difficult, dry time, remember that it is an opportunity to learn humility. Live in total dependence on God. At the right time, He will lead you out of the desert.
