The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. —Psalm 29:3
During the turbulent times of the last few years, Psalm 29 has been an anchor for my heart, my runaway emotions, and my rogue thoughts and imaginations—all the what-ifs in these crazy days.
When this passage was written, something drastic and earth shattering was occurring in nature. Whether it was a massive thunderstorm or some other natural disaster, it was altering the environment and changing the circumstances. Seven times throughout this short psalm we find the phrase “the voice of the Lord.” God was speaking during the storm.
In fact, verse 3 tells us the God of glory thunders. He’s not just speaking quietly. He wants to make Himself known. He’s revealing His mind and heart to us. We won’t know everything about Him this side of eternity, but God is speaking.
During our storm, we can trust that God is there. He is speaking, waiting to give us direction, peace, and security for this present moment and for the future.
